He trained in UK & USA and served as dean of medicine at King Edward Medical College, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College, CEO Jinnah Hospital Lahore, Founding Vice Chancellor Shaheed Zulfiqar Bhutto Medical University, CEO PIMS and remained Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences from 2018 to 2022, founding President of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine and International Advisor to Royal College of Physicians London and is recipient of the global excellence in patient care award from the same institution due to his recent research during the COVID pandemic.
He is also a fellow of American Colleges of Cardiology and Medicine and in addition obtained fellowships from American Society of Internal Medicine and Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine. He is a clinician, a laboratory researcher, a medical educationist and a health delivery administrator. He is presently leading a group working on cloning of human pharmaceutical protein genes and their commercialization. His recent efforts have resulted in the cloning of many human genes in E. coli and yeast, as a source material for the semi-commercial production. His research efforts are also focused on regeneration of bone marrow and adipose tissue derived stem cells to exploit their potential in the repair of burnt damaged skin. He is also working as Principal Investigator in clinical trials of five different COVID-19 vaccines.
He is also the founding President of Inter University Board of all medical universities of Punjab, founding President of Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine and Chairman, World Ramadan Study Group. He also conducted several multi centered studies on COVID-19 Pandemic and its vaccines as Principal Investigator. Some of his major studies on Covid 19 include PROTECT trial, clinical trials of Zf2001 vaccine and CanSino Bio vaccine.
Professor Javed Akram has contributed significantly to delivery of quality Health Care to the ailing masses free of cost. As Principal, Allama Iqbal Medical College and Chief Executive Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, he has set enviable precedent to ensure 100% free medical care to the patients. He has created a diversified range of specialties in the hospital along with a Burn and a Re-constructive Surgery Center. Another significant contribution is the establishment of medico legal and non medico legal autopsy protocols at Jinnah hospital due to which the institution has become a leader in hospital autopsy in Pakistan.
Professor Javed Akram meticulously exploited the Corporate Social Responsibility; numerous MOUs were signed for the benefit of the institution. The arrangements of Public-Private Partnership have yielded fruits both in quality and quantity. Many institutional libraries were upgraded to match international standards. Initiatives for ISO certification, JCI accreditation have resulted in the conduct audit of various procedures. His efforts have lead to raising huge funds for IDPs, GAZA affectees and provided help in the form of medical supplies and services in collaboration with many international partners like International Health Partners, WHO, Asian Development Bank, etc. Various welfare schemes for the support staff, their families and students of the institutions which include establishment of a Rag shop, a recycling paper mill, Jinnah Public School, mosque for females, etc were also launched. A Radio station for Health Services and provision of an Air Ambulance was initiated for the first time in Pakistan and are nearing completion.
As a consequence of his invaluable services to the profession, community and outstanding researches, Professor Javed Akram has been decorated with Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for research in the field of Parkinson’s disease (1999), Best Research Award (2005-06) by National Academy of Medical Sciences and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (2011) by the President of Pakistan and Lifetime Achievement Award by Government College University, Lahore on 20th Convocation held in November 2022.
Prof. (Dr.) Afrozul Haq
Prof. (Dr.) Afrozul Haq, is the founder Vice Chancellor of H.A. University, Imphal, Manipur. Prof. Haq currently appointed as the Director, Research, Maulana Azad University, Jodhpur (Rajasthan). Invited as an advisor for W.H.O. Mediterranean Region, Beirut, Lebanon. Prof. Haq is the former Dean and Head of the Department of Food Technology, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, India. He is a well-known educationist, a research scientist and a social activist. He is internationally known for his innovative research on vitamin D and traditional medicine. Prof. Haq is a graduate of Aligarh Muslim University, India and started his professional career from the National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi in 1984. Trained as a postdoctoral fellow at National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), Paris, France. Prof. Haq has more than 40 years of experience as a basic & clinical research scientist working in a number of research labs, and hospitals around the world including Pasteur Institute, Paris, France; McGill University, Montreal, Canada; King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Mafraq Hospital, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Hospital, Gulf Diagnostic Centre Hospital & Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, UAE. While working at Abu Dhabi he served as the Head of Biochemical Diseases Investigation, Chair of Medical Ethics Committee and Director of Research.
Prof. Haq’s most outstanding contribution to health research is pioneering Vitamin D research and its testing in the UAE. Serving as the Founding President and Chairman of International Conference on Vitamin D Deficiency, Nutrition and Human Health continuously for the last 8 years. Prof. Haq successfully developed clinical practice guidelines of supplemental vitamin D for all age groups suffering from vitamin D deficiency. Prof. Haq, served as the guest Editor of the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for 5 years. Total number of publications, and abstracts: 170.

Andrew Yeudall attended Glasgow University, where he obtained degrees in Biochemistry (1983) and Dentistry (1986). Subsequently, he was awarded a Medical Research Council research training fellowship which allowed him to carry out studies at the Beatson Institute in the laboratory of Dr. Saveria Campo, investigating the possible role of human papillomaviruses in the etiology of oral cancer. These studies led to the degree of PhD (1991).
In 1990, he was appointed as a clinical lecturer in oral medicine and oral surgery at Bristol University, after which he moved, in 1993, as a visiting associate scientist to the laboratory of Dr. Keith Robbins at the National Institutes of Health. He held a visiting lectureship at the Eastman Dental Institute from 1995-98, and was appointed to positions of senior investigator (1999) and clinical senior lecturer (2001) at King’s College London. In 2002, Dr. Yeudall moved to Richmond, Virginia, as an associate professor of oral and craniofacial molecular biology in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, serving as department head from 2005-13. He was also a member scientist in the VCU Massey Cancer Center and an associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology. Dr. Yeudall relocated to Augusta University in 2015, where he currently serves as chair of Oral Biology & Diagnostic Sciences in the Dental College of Georgia, and as a member in the Georgia Cancer Center.
In 2004, he was honored as a Visiting Professor in the Faculties of Dentistry at Thammasat, Chulalongkorn and Chiang Mai Universities. Dr. Yeudall serves on the editorial boards of Oral Oncology, Oral Diseases, Frontiers in Oral Health – Oral Cancers, and other journals in the fields of biochemistry and cancer research. In 2005 he became a Founding Fellow of the International Academy of Oral Oncology. His laboratory works on the molecular and cellular biology of head and neck cancer, and identification of novel therapeutic targets for squamous cell carcinoma.
Dr Sohel Talib
Before joining CIRM, he was the Director of Product Development at Geron Corporation, Menlo Park, California. At Geron Corporation, Sohel directed immune-oncology program on the development of an autologous dendritic cell vaccine for cancer (Geron VAC-1). Prior to Geron Corporation, Sohel Talib, served as the Director of Immunology at Cerus Corporation, a biotech company developing novel allogeneic stem cell therapy for the hematological malignancies. He is a cofounder of Applied Immune Sciences (AIS), which was acquired by Rhone Poulenc Rorer (RPR, currently Sanofi). At RPR Gen Cell, he directed the development
and execution of adoptive immunotherapy for cancer and autoimmunity programs.
Dr. Talib received his post-doctoral training at Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley and Roche Institute of Molecular Biology, Nutley. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Aligarh Muslim University, India. He was Department of Science and Technology Scholar, at Madurai Kamaraj University, India and received International DANIDA fellowship from Danish Institute of Protein Chemistry, Horsholm, Denmark.
