Application for FRIS Postgraduate Scholarship in Biomedical Sciences 2026-27

This programme provides partial financial support to students from the Indian subcontinent pursuing a career in biomedical sciences who seek to make a positive impact on their communities through their research and scholarly efforts.Scholarships are for postgraduate (MSc) studies in a field of biomedical science such as Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology and Molecular Pathology. The work can be done at any university in the UK or EU. The training should include both a research project and course work. Programmes directed toward MRes, MD and MS degrees or an MSc in Veterinary Sciences are not eligible. The amount of the award is equivalent to £5,000 and takes the form of reimbursement for specified incidental expenses.

Scholarships are available to students who are citizens of a country in the Indian subcontinent (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldive, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and are currently studying there or in the UK or the EU. A bachelor’s degree in a field related to the biomedical sciences is required. If the undergraduate degree results are not available by 30 June 2026, applicants can submit transcripts from the previous two years predicting a clear pass. In such cases, the applicants must indicate that the award is pending and submit a copy of the degree as soon as it is available. Students currently enrolled in a postgraduate programme are not eligible; however, applicants holding a postgraduate degree will be considered. Students partially supported by another scholarship may also apply.

Applications for the 2026-27 academic year must be submitted before the deadline of 30 June 2026. If you postpone enrolment, you will forfeit the scholarship. There is no assurance of acceptance of a reapplication. This scholarship is a one-year award and will not be extended for any reason.

An APF payment reference identifying the candidate as the payee is required. The unique reference should have the candidate’s first name, dash, date of birth (ddmmyyyy format), dash, country abbreviation. For example, if a candidate’s name is Afshan Munir, her date of birth is 19 October 1997, and she is an Indian citizen, her reference will be Afshan- 19101997-IN. [Abbreviations for the seven different countries of the Indian subcontinent: Bangladesh (BD), Bhutan (BT), India (IN), Maldives (MV), Nepal (NP), Pakistan (PK), Sri Lanka (LK). Payment should be made in a single transaction to the FRIS Charity UK bank account. It must be equivalent to no less than £20.00 in your national currency excluding processing expenses. (Be sure that the correct fee is paid all at one time.) It can be paid by an interbank transfer facilitated by a local bank. Payment with an online platform should use the following link (MSc Application Processing Fee). Please make sure your credit/debit card is enabled for an international payment. The APF is non-refundable. Your application will not be considered without either the transaction ID or payment receipt. There is no alternative payment option at present. Please note that neither a transaction ID nor a payment receipt are sufficient evidence of actual payment. The payment must be credited to our account for the application to be considered. If either a transaction ID or payment receipt are submitted, but no funds have been credited to the FRIS account, the applicant must resolve the matter within 10 working days by paying the APF for their application before the application can be considered.
